TOLTEC LEGENDS

lthough the Toltecs vanished as a physical culture, stories of their greatness grew among the people of central Mexico. The Toltecs were credited as the source of all that was good, beautiful, and wise. Stories were told of Toltec ears of corn so large a man could hardly lift one and of cotton that grew in every color. Legends described the fall of Quetzalcoatl, the gentle god-leader of Tula who abhorred human sacrifice. Quetzalcoatl was banished across the sea by Tezcatlipoca, god of war and night, but it was foretold that Quetzalcoatl would one day return.
